A Call for Collaboration to Form a North American Hunting & Fishing Artifacts & Art Association

A Call for Collaboration to Form a North American Hunting & Fishing Artifacts & Art Association

By Stan Van Etten, Publisher of Hunting & Fishing Collectibles Magazine

There are presently many clubs and publications that represent collectors of vintage and contemporary Hunting & Fishing artifacts and art. However, nearly all of these organizations focus narrowly on specific collectibles such as decoys, lures, reels, calls, art, etc. Several of these clubs sponsor shows at the local, and/or regional, or national level.

While several of these organizations are currently quite successful in meeting their chosen goals, there is considerable concern that cultural and age-related demographics are not optimistic for their future.

However, I believe that the future for these clubs and their shows can be very bright indeed if their leadership acts now to enlarge and broaden their focus by becoming part of a national (North American), Association that is dedicated to the effective marketing and promotion of the multiple collecting interests of its diverse membership groups.

To be very clear, I am not proposing the abandonment of existing local and regional or even national clubs, but rather, am proposing the formation of an "Umbrella" organization that could greatly enhance the visibility and ongoing viability of all of its constituent members.

I have in mind that, in addition to the presently existing clubs, other entities such as museums, conservation groups, auction houses, etc., could play an important role in the kind of comprehensive and inclusive "Association" that I envision.

In order to gauge the potential interest in the kind of National/North American organization that has been outlined here, please contact me by email at: SVanEtten@HFCollectibles.com
